Colorado Sentencing Calculator

Legend – How to Read and Use the Calculator

Inputs
  • Offense Date – Date crime occurred. Colorado changed parole terms (7/1/2020) and misdemeanor classes (3/1/2022).
  • Offense Type – Choose Felony (F1–F6), Drug Felony (DF1–DF4), or Misdemeanor (M1–M3/M2).
  • Class / Level – Severity:
    • Felony: F1 (most serious) → F6 (least)
    • Drug Felony: DF1 (highest) → DF4 (lowest)
    • Misdemeanor: M1 (most serious), M2 (mid), M3 (lowest, pre-2022 only)
  • Extraordinary Risk – Check if offense is on Colorado’s extraordinary risk list (e.g., stalking, child abuse).
  • Crime of Violence (CoV) – Check if offense qualifies under CRS 18-1.3-406 (e.g., armed robbery, violent assault).
  • Prior Felony Convictions – Enter number of prior felonies. Two or more typically makes probation unavailable.
Outputs
  • Classification – Restates selected offense type and class.
  • Presumptive Range – Standard minimum–maximum sentence for that class.
  • Aggravated (Statutory) – Maximum allowed with aggravating factors (commonly up to 2× presumptive max).
  • Extraordinary Risk Max – Higher maximum if classified as extraordinary risk.
  • Crime of Violence Window – Mandatory sentencing range for CoV crimes: midpoint–2× presumptive max.
  • Mandatory Parole – Parole term added after prison. None for misdemeanors.
  • Notes – Flags special conditions (e.g., probation ineligibility) and reminders to consult CRS.
